![]() | Owakudani is the place where you can observe the dynamic activity of the volcano at work. You would get to see the boiling water cauldrons and fumarolic gas blowing up white smoke. It is a popular spot that tourist would not miss when visiting Hakone. As it is situated at the mountain top, you would need to take the cable-car/ ropeway to reach Owakudani. The cable-car ride itself is a not-to-miss experience where you enjoy the view of the valley floor spreading under your eyes on the way from Sounzan to Owakudani, and the beautiful scenery of Mount Fuji and Lake Ashi on the way to Togendai.
The Hakone Open-Air Museum is a large facility comprises of good variety of Art collections. The facility includes Sculpture Garden, Main Gallery, Picasso Pavilion and Woods of Net. It was opened in 1969 as the first outdoor museum in Japan. Over the years, the museum’s collection has grown to hold over 2,000 works of art. It’s Sculpture Garden features a good mix of contemporary outdoor sculptures in a well-maintained garden. And it’s Picasso Pavilion has a collection of over 300 works by Pablo Picasso. ![]() | Hakone Shrine with its shrine buildings hidden in the dense forest, is well-known for its huge torii gates, one standing prominently in the lake and two others over the main street of Moto-Hakone. A path leads from the torii gate in Lake Ashi up to the main building of the shrine sits peacefully among the tall trees. The shrine is beautiful throughout the year, and is particularly breath-taking when shrouded in mist. |
